   7 packages (or later) to build GNU tar.  We don't make any extra effort
   8 to accommodate older versions of these packages.  If we discover that
   9 newer versions are needed to bootstrap, we'll update the version

  19 For GNU m4 1.4, we recommend also installing the `translit' patch; see

  23 Before building the package, run "bootstrap".  It obtains various
  24 additional files from the CVS repository and the Translation Project
  25 site and prepares the source directory for building.

  27 When run without arguments, bootstrap will try to obtain gnulib files
  28 from CVS repository on savannah using anonymous SSH access. Then, it
  29 will fetch the po files from tar page at Translation Project, and,
  30 finally, it will start autoconfiguration process. Simply running
  31 it without arguments should do in most cases. Several options
  32 allow to control the behavior of bootstrap:

  35  --gnulib-srcdir=DIRNAME      Specify the local directory where gnulib
  36                               sources reside. Use this if you already
  37                               have gnulib sources on your machine, and
  38                               do not want to waste your bandwidth dowloading
  39                               them again.
  40  --cvs-auth=METHOD            Set the CVS access method used for downloading
  41                               gnulib files. METHOD is one of the keywords
  42                               accepted by cvs -d option (see info cvs
  43                               repository).
  44  --cvs-user=USERNAME          Set the CVS username to be used when accessing
  45                               the gnulib repository.
  46  --no-po                      Do not download po files.

  48 Notice also that when using CVS authentication method "ext", bootstrap
  49 will set the variable CVS_RSH to "ssh", unless it is already set to
  50 some other value.
